Jean Luc Colombo

Color: Deep purplish black. Bouquet: Rich and complex, with aromas of back fruit and hints of chocolate and licorice. Taste: Harmonious and elegant; exhibits outstanding concentration and a long, lingering finish. Enjoyable in youth, it has the potential to mature and evolve for two decades. Serving Suggestions: Pairs perfectly with beef, game, truffles and mushroom-based dishes.

Wine Spectator

This is packed, with dark fig and raspberry ganache notes all richly layered with bittersweet cocoa, aged tobacco, loam and iron. The long, muscular finish will need time to stretch out. Best from 2008 through 2017.

Score: 94. —James Molesworth, March 31, 2008.

Wine Advocate

The 2005 Cornas La Louvee (fewer than 2,000 bottles produced) is a seriously endowed effort that remains incredibly tannic, backward, and structured. A classic example of the vintage, it is well-endowed yet also forbiddingly backward, and painfully hard and austere. I like the character of the black fruit, crushed rock, scorched earth, etc, and believe it is just a question of time. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2020+.

Score: 90. —Robert Parker, February 2008.
