Charles Cimicky

1st release of the 100% Petite Syrah or Durif as it is known in Australia, from an 8 year old vineyard. Aged 19 months in French oak of which 50% was new. Grapes are sourced from multiple, estate owned vineyards around the Barossa, gently squeezed in a basket press and fermented and aged separately before being blended to create the final assemblage.

Wine Advocate

The 2005 Petite Syrah is the first release from a vineyard Charles Cimicky planted eight years ago. It was aged for 19 months in 50% new oak, a mix of French and American. The wine is a thick opaque purple in color with aromas of pain grille, smoke, blueberry preserves, and blackberry liqueur. Full-bodied and loaded with flavor, this powerful effort is well-balanced and very long in the finish. It has enough structure to evolve for at least a decade and should drink well through 2035 for those young enough and patient enough to bury it in the cellar.

Score: 94. —Jay Miller, October 2007.
